California launches more natural-channel SKUs than anywhere else, and buyers there read the back panel closely. Recyclability and compostability claims are regulated here, so the structure and the wording have to agree.

Almonds, pistachios, raisins and dates move in volume, often in bigger fills. Oily nuts need a real oxygen barrier or they go rancid before the sell-by date.

Supplement facts, claims and any required warning statement eat the back panel fast. Fine powders also clog ordinary zippers, so the closure and the layout both need planning.

California licenses or registers processed pet food and asks for a representative label, and raw or frozen pet food goes through a different agency again. Build the label elements in early.

High oxygen and moisture barrier, usually with room for an oxygen absorber. California has no state meat inspection program of its own, so commercial meat brands go through USDA and USDA reviews the label.

What California Law Lets You Print on a Bag
No other state regulates packaging claims this closely. Here’s the short version, as it stands today.
Recyclability claims (SB 343)
California’s Truth in Labeling law sets tests a material must meet before a chasing-arrows symbol or “recyclable” claim can be used. Enforcement is currently paused by a federal court injunction while the law is challenged, so treat the criteria as direction of travel, not a live deadline — and check with counsel before you print either way.
Producer responsibility (SB 54)
This one is in force. Permanent regulations took effect in 2026 and flexible plastic packaging is covered. Brand owners are generally the “producer,” registration runs through the state’s producer responsibility organization, and smaller producers under the sales threshold still have to register.
Prop 65 and compostable claims
Where a Prop 65 warning applies to food, it has to be boxed, set off from other text, and point at the food-specific warning address — not the general one. Compostable claims need third-party certification, and green or brown tinting on non-compostable bags is restricted.
This is a plain-language summary for packaging buyers, not legal advice, and California moves fast. Check current requirements with CalRecycle and your own counsel before committing artwork to print. What we can do is build the structure and the layout to match whichever claims you’re cleared to make.

What Will a Run of Bags Cost?
Price per bag depends on style, size, material, print colors and features like zippers or valves. Shipping within California is included, there are no plate fees, and we quote several quantity levels.

Are you actually based in California?
Yes. Our office is at 857 Cumberland Dr, Sunnyvale, CA 94087, in Santa Clara County. That means California business hours, no time-zone lag on approvals, and the option to meet in person for Bay Area projects.
What is your minimum order?
5,000 bags per design (SKU). Each flavor or size counts as its own design. Pricing improves at 10,000 and 25,000. If you need a few hundred bags, a short-run digital printer is a better fit and we’ll say so.
How long does it take to get bags in California?
8–10 weeks from approved artwork to delivery at your door, shipping included. You can expedite part of your order to arrive in 4–6 weeks.
Can I put a recycling symbol on my pouch?
Be careful here. California’s Truth in Labeling law sets conditions on chasing-arrows symbols and “recyclable” claims, and while enforcement is currently paused by a court injunction, the underlying rules are still being litigated. We’ll build the structure you need; the claim itself should be cleared with your own counsel before it goes to print.
Does SB 54 affect my packaging?
Probably, if you sell packaged goods into California. The producer responsibility regulations are in force, flexible plastic is covered, and brand owners are usually the responsible producer. Smaller producers under the sales threshold generally still have to register. Worth checking your own obligations early, because it can influence which structure you choose.
I sell cottage food. Do I need printed packaging?
Not usually at first. California’s cottage food rules allow home-produced food within annual sales limits, with specific label requirements including “Made in a Home Kitchen” in 12-point type on the front panel. When you outgrow those limits or move into wholesale, you’ll need a licensed facility and commercial printed packaging.
What about jerky and meat snacks?
California doesn’t run a state meat inspection program equivalent to USDA’s, so commercial meat snack brands are inspected federally and USDA reviews the label before use. Send us the approved artwork and we’ll fit it to the bag.
Do pet treats need anything extra?
Yes. Processed pet food is licensed or registered with the state and a representative label is submitted, and raw or frozen pet food is handled by a different agency again. Get the required label elements confirmed before artwork, not after.
Do you charge plate fees?
No. Print tooling is included in the per-bag price, so there’s no separate setup charge on a new design or a new flavor.
Are the bags made in California?
The company is here; the printing is not. Our partner plants are in Asia and our Sunnyvale team manages the job end to end. The quoted price includes ocean freight and duties, and the 8-10 week lead time already counts the transit.
