Home producers under the Local Food Choice Act
Montana’s Local Food Choice Act exempts homemade food from packaging and labeling rules altogether. Those sales are direct to the customer, inside Montana, and wholesale isn’t allowed.

The program is run by the Montana Department of Commerce. Joining costs nothing, and members renew their listing each year to keep using the logo.

Products qualify when at least half their added value is created in Montana. Approved producer members are the only ones who may put the logo on products.

How Montana’s Cold and Distances Test Packaging
Deep cold, long hauls and a short selling season are all hard on bags. We plan for them when we spec your pouch.
Deep winter cold
Unheated trailers and storage sheds get brutally cold here. Thin single-layer film goes brittle and cracks at the folds; multi-layer laminates hold their seals.
Long distances
Montana is the fourth largest state, and it is hundreds of miles between Billings, Great Falls, Missoula and Kalispell. Puncture-resistant film and strong seals get bags there intact.
A short selling season
Glacier and Yellowstone traffic concentrates gift and gourmet sales into a few months. Running out mid-summer costs more than the bags did.

Are you a flexible packaging company that serves Montana?

5,000 bags per design (SKU). Each flavor or size counts as its own design. Pricing improves at 10,000 and 25,000.

Can I order if I sell under the Local Food Choice Act?
You can, but most producers under that act don’t need us yet. It exempts homemade food from packaging and labeling requirements, limits you to direct sales inside Montana, and excludes meat entirely. Printed packaging becomes necessary when you go licensed and start selling wholesale or shipping out of state.
What does a Montana jerky or meat snack bag need on it?
Meat products must come from an inspected plant, and the package carries the inspection legend and establishment number along with the product name, net weight, ingredients and allergens. Montana’s meat program is run by the Department of Livestock, and labels are reviewed and approved before use — build that into your timeline. State inspection covers sales inside Montana; selling across state lines means USDA inspection or the Cooperative Interstate Shipment program.
Can you print the Made in Montana logo on my packaging?
Yes, if you’re an approved producer member. The Department of Commerce supplies the mark to members as AI, PDF or JPG at no charge. Send us the AI or PDF and we’ll place it on your die line so it prints cleanly.
Can I get samples before I order?
Yes. We mail free sample bags so you can check size and fill with your own product, and we can produce printed prototypes.
Is there a plate or setup charge on a new design?
No. We don’t charge plate fees. Print tooling is included in the per-bag price, so the first run of a new design doesn’t open with a separate setup invoice.
Are these made in the USA?
No. The printing is done by our partner plants in Asia. We’re a US company and we manage the factory, the freight and the customs so you don’t have to, and the price we quote is delivered to your door.
